Nature in the Lögdeälven valley

In a publication from 1992, the "Group for the conservation of the Lögde River" has described the pearls of the Lögde River. This was done to explain the unique natural values that exist along the almost 60 km long river stretch within Nordmaling municipality. The group was formed as a counter-movement to the planned hydropower expansion, something that was discussed extensively for some time. The group won a hearing and the river remained untouched. Today, not least natural people and the hospitality industry are happy about that decision.

Älvdalen's history is very old. The first traces of settlement are found 50 km up the river. By the Stone Age, the coastline was up here and your slate tools have been found, including in Mjösjöby and Upper Uusimaa. The people lived on hunting and fi happen and even today there are traces in the landscape of hunting pit systems. The Sami have also left traces along the river. Horny places and graves have been found.

The first settlement in recent times emerged at the mouth of the river. Here, agriculture quickly became the main industry. As the settlement spread upstream. Along the river there are numerous meadow meadows, most of which are now abandoned.

The river has been the subject of research and studies of geology for many years. Geologist Mauno Lassila writes, for example: “When it comes to powerful topography and a rich world of form, the Lögde River stands out among the country's forest rivers. Lögdeälven's meander system is very extensive in relation to the size of the catchment area and shows a rapid change in the meander pattern. In addition, there is a rich and powerful ravine terrain along most of the river. The Lögde River also has a deep valley with closed valley sides, which is unique. ”
