Råberget - this is where the Västerbotten landscape begins

Although Nordmaling belongs to Västerbotten County, the municipality is included in the province of Ångermanland.

The earliest landscape boundary from the end of the 14th century was south of the villages Hörnsjö, Gräsmyr and Mullsjö, but in 1766 the Västerbotten boundary was established to a stretch north of the municipality's current area. It is only the short distance between Pengsjön and the cairn on Råberget that Nordmaling municipality's border and landscape border coincide.

The cairn on Råberget was built when the border was established. Here, the municipalities of Nordmalings, Vännäs and Umeå meet.
