Nature in the Hörnån valley

Hörnån comes from the old name Horneå and means "the river with the many horns", that is, meandering loops.

The river has its sources fl destiny north of Bracksele outside Bjurholm. It is 65 kilometers long and passes through three municipalities on its way out to sea. It is only a short distance that goes through Nordmaling municipality.

Along the valley, agricultural land has developed over the years, in the same way as in the other valleys.

Many parts are still undeveloped and those who move in such areas, for example, can experience a true feeling of wilderness and even encounter a bear. Some stretches of Hörnån are difficult to get close to due to the inaccessible nature.

Gräsmyr and Hörnsjö are the two most important villages along the valley. Gräsmyr is with its birch alley one of Sweden's longest row villages.
