Öreälven, which is one of the municipality's two large rivers, has its source fl destinies on Stöttingfjället in the border area between Lycksele, Vilhelmina and Storuman's municipalities. On the way down to the sea, it flows through the municipalities of Bjurholm and Nordmaling. It is 22.5 km long and has a drop of 550 meters.
Like the Lögde River, the Öre River is a typical northern forest river. This means that it has its entire precipitation area within the forest land and is not dependent on the snowmelt in the mountains. The area has extremely few lakes that can help level the watershed. This means that the river changes appearance many times a year and that the water level can become very high during persistent rainy summers. Both the Öreälven and Lögdeälven valleys are very hilly with some of the country's highest nips and a number of deep ravines. The rivers literally meander through the landscape and form many meander arches.
The Öre River has been the lifeblood of settlement and activities in the area through the ages. Many of the strawberry places covered in this chapter testify to human labor, even as far back as three thousand years ago.
The entire Öreälven nature area is protected in accordance with the regulations for Natura 2000. Natura 2000 is a network of Europe's most valuable areas. The areas that are classified as conservation worthy according to Natura 2000 also have a plan that describes how the nature values can be maintained. The county administrative boards are responsible for that work.
With this as a starting point, it is easy to find strawberry places along the Öre river valley.
