The moving block in Ytteravan

The moving block in Ytteravan is one of two giant stones that, through the care of the ice age and the land uplift, ended up in the middle of the Kronören area. One surface block, round like an egg and with the small end up, was previously visible far out to sea. Now you have to go to Gumpfjärden to see this mighty fl surface block. The other giant stone stands on the shore of Ytteravan.

According to legend, it was two old men who were enemies and who, in sheer anger, threw their big stones at each other. Roland Eriksson has written down the story of the two:

“In the old days, not many people lived out in the archipelago. On Kronören – Långron lived someone named Kal Pers'n and on Storängslandet one named Janne. These guys were both big and strong and quite hot-tempered. Once they became enemies of seal hunting, both blaming the other for unfair action. They started arguing about it and because they had kilometer your miles of open water between them they were allowed to raise their voices properly to hear each other. People in the villages inland, such as Storfall, Mullsjö, Djupsjö and Örsbäck, wondered if the thunder went out to sea, even though the sky was clear blue. In the end, Janne got really angry and grabbed a real rock of 8-10 cubic meters which he threw at his antagonist. However, he missed grossly. The stone ended up on the other side of the island where it bounced and made large pits in the rock that became small ponds. It finally stopped at Ytteravan and there it is still.

Kal Pers'n was, of course, stunned by Janne's stone-throwing and sought out an even larger stone, which he hauled away towards Storänget. However, it was too big and heavy so it ended up on the shore where it stood on a high edge. "Now you're a church tower!" shouted Kal Pers'n before he went to get a piece of food. Since then, the stone has been called Storängskyrkan. ”
