Hummelholm's hay meadows

Hummelholm dates back to the Middle Ages and the buildings in combination with the cultural landscape and the claimed meadows are a cultural-historical environment of great value.

Along the lower parts of the Öre River, on meandernäs, islets and on slopes, an extensive meadow farm was operated right into the 1950s and 60s. When the meadows in Hummelholm became a nature reserve in 1977, it was to preserve and continue to nurture part of a disappearing cultural landscape.

On the meadow there are plenty of trees, preferably heather and eel. Almond arrow also occurs. The treetops form dense canopies over the meadow during the summer.

Our den oden in the river varies greatly from year to year. In some years, the meadows can be completely under water at our fl od. Masses of ice are sometimes thrown over the meadows and knock down trees and shrubs. In the trunks of the trees, there is clear damage to the bark from the advance of the ice. In summer the meadows are flower-rich and lush, in early summer red blisters and wild berries bloom and in late summer flowers, golden rice, reindeer fan and river lettuce.

The nature reserve is managed by the villagers and the meadows are mowed every summer. Take the opportunity to visit the area in early June when the hawthorn is in bloom or at the end of July when the yellow reindeer fan and the blue river salad are in bloom.

Adjacent to the nature reserve there is car parking, windbreak with fireplace and timbered rest benches.
