Storbådan and Lillbådan

In the very outer part of Nordmalingsfjärden are two almost completely bare islands, Storbådan and Lillbådan, both of which are part of the nature reserve Kronören.

Lillbådan in particular has many nesting bird species and is therefore a bird protection area. During the period April 15 to August 15, it is forbidden to walk or fear Lillbådan or come closer to its shoreline than 100 m,

The high lighthouse on Storbådan makes the whole island an eye-catcher, visible far and wide. Landing on the rocky and rocky island is not always easy. If the wrong wind blows, it can be completely impossible. Once you have landed, the feeling is incredibly powerful, especially if it is beautiful weather - to stand in the middle of the treeless island and be surrounded by sea, sky and sunlight.

As you wander around, you discover, in addition to all the usual gulls, labs that circle over your head and rosettes that wedge away over the rocks. And out over the water, chubby sandeel flies fly with bright red feet.

Järnäs resident Sara Ågren remembers other times at Storbådan. In the talking book "The village tells" you can take part of her experiences from the island during the first part of the 20th century. She tells of the struggle with herring fishing with her father from the time she was 14 years old and against her will had to spend the summers on Storbådan.
