Military Airfield 19

In 1939, Sweden's Riksdag decided to build 20 new military airfields. Krigsflygfält 19 was established in Olofsfors.

The aviation administration purchased 84 ha of land from Nordmalings Angsågs AB for SEK 93,000. In the summer of 1940, Nya Asfalt AB, Stockholm carried out the ground work at a cost of SEK 169,000. In January 1942 there were two accommodation barracks, an expedition barrack, a storage barrack and two dass. The fuel supply consisted of 5,000 liters of C petrol, 750 liters of BBC bentol and 350 liters of lntava Red Band. In 1944, the area of the airfield was 900 x 1,000 meters.

In the forest area next to the airfield, there are today traces of 15 A defenses for, for example, the B3 bomber, Junkers 86 D-1 or two fighter planes, as well as 12 B defenses for the Saab B 17 bomber. On Brännåsen and Hännesåsen, which surround the airfield, defense facilities were built. The field was overseen by a local overseer. After World War II, the field became a civilian airfield for Örnsköldsvik, Umeå and Nordmaling. In 1955, the newspaper flight started, which, depending on space, also included passengers. Linjeflyg took over operations in 1957 and ended civil commercial flights on 16 December 1961.
